Response to: What do you feel while doing art? Posted March 22nd, 2025 in Art

I feel intent and determination. When I draw, I have a specific idea or concept I want to do and achieve. I want to whittle down the barrier between my imagination and my actual ability to translate what's in my brain to the canvas, and drawing and feeling that intent to draw and determination to make something great is what drives me. Drawing is kind of addictively fun, but ive also had to sit down and take a breather, realise, that I need to take breaks, because sometimes I overdo it and I get like...9 hours of drawing done, which is a bit concerning since I need to obviously do other things lol

Response to: Are you planning to see Shrek 5 when it comes out? Posted March 1st, 2025 in Animation

Im not sure. To be honest, I dont find it's style to be particularly bad. Actually, I like that it resembles the original book's style more, and it's natural that the technology and style is bound to be better now than it was back then.

I feel like the issue people have with the style of THIS film is that it resembles the wacky fluidity of animated films nowadays, the kind of mario movie/illumination movie sort of bounciness to it that usually gets associated with wacky hijinks and the like. Because of that association, it feels weird to some I bet, to see it with Shrek. From the get-go, especially in 1 and 2, it's basically one big silly parody of typical disney-fairy tale shtick and its why the movies are so memorable, because they're riffing on what disney's done so much while also genuinely conveying a fun or meaningful story. Even in shrek 4/forever after, there's a genuinely nice meaning to valuing what you have and not taking it for granted in spite of the issues that exist in one's life, alongside accepting that the past is the past and doesnt need to be relieved. Cant say much about shrek 3, though I remember heavily disliking it.

I dont care about the design change so long as there's a genuinely meaningful story to be told, and that it isnt just gonna be silly-wacky hijinks - shrek is about parodying disney shit, and also conveying something with well intent. I HOPE that this movie keeps that up.

Man, learning about that wiki was a trip. Genuinely spooky place to go - reminds me of the pre-2010 internet in a way, one wrong click and you're somewhere that hasnt been documented, another tiny little island of the greater internet that is really cursed in its own right.

That's why I put the Treasure Dragon metaphor. Dragons get riches to lay their eggs on it.
But I don't expect Bill Gates to lay eggs anytime soon.. Metaphorically or literally.
Microsoft is just buying to murder other smalls companies, it's a technique to
eliminate competition and snuff the fire of any successful competitor.
The actions speak itself, Microsoft see any new purchase of companies
as a number in the chest. Rather than just a tool to use when necessary.

it fuckin' sucks.

TBH, this is an interesting read.

The support character, Mercy, had the capability to superjump if the player did a specific combination of key inputs while moving to essentially launch the mobility-less healer upward, allowing the character to have much more capability within matches than just a healbot. however, the overwatch devs attempted to fit this as a part of her character and act like this was an intended feature...which then made it worse to use as an ability.

they eventually scrapped trying to make it a feature and let it be as is. overwatch is a game where bugs are treated by the devs as intended sideeffects, yet they ban using these things within actual esports and they patch out the ones really enjoy.

another example is doomfist - he's a character with a massive fist, who originally was designed to be like a fighting game character in an FPS. He can zoom across the map and punch, uppercut and launch into the air, and slam down. there were several techniques involving timed slams that turned him into a terrifying character to deal with, because he could practically fly off of weird geometry and be just as terrifying as his story makes him out to be. however, the overwatch devs treated his unintended bugs, some of which DID harm his gameplay, as things that were intended.

ultimately they completely changed him instead of rectifying the bugs and keeping the ones that made him fun.

to me its that they werent intended aspects, the devs tried acting like they were, then tarnished or brutalised them into the ground. which fits, since any fun that there is to be had with overwatch died when Overwatch 1 did two/three years back.

At 1/14/25 05:58 PM, Wegra wrote:Who are some of your favorite video game reviewers/ youtubers ?

honestly the AVGN...up until his newest stuff. the AVGN is honestly the perfect archetype of a reviewer because he's a character based off of stereotypes about gamers back then, and also how they can be online now. he's a hilarious overexaggeration of gamers taken to the extreme and the way he just words things is genuinely hilarious to me. the dick tracy review is one of his best because you can tell that a lot of the thoughts about the game are taken from james rolfe's experience, only put through AVGN as a character and then turned into this genuinely fucking funny review where theres some legitimate criticism thrown at the game.

i feel like game reviewers on youtube had a decline for a while because most of them just tried being an angry reviewer without understanding that the AVGN was a character, not the real person playing him. People made some seriously bad faith criticism for the past 15 years in an attempt to emulate what james rolfe created with a shitty camcorder and capture cards and its telling that the genre of reviewers imo is so dead now, its all just chill thoughts with fair crit now.
